I wasn’t really in the mood to read any Christmas stories this year except for my Christmas Donald Duck comics, so I decided to read a story that could not have been more removed from anything remotely Christmas-y; The Voodoo Killings. It was dark, eerie, murderous and just what I craved
The plot was a nice murder mystery with the added ghoul-zombie flavour, straight forward, but with enough mystery to keep my attention.
The characters I absolutely adored. From the headstrong and very likeable, yet not always that bright female protagonist to her friends without a pulse, I liked them all. They were a perfect combination to keep the plot moving forward with interest.
The writing was crisp and was meant to have a fast-paced style to it, which at times made it difficult to follow, since quite a few concepts were introduced that could have required more explanation while other details were described very thoroughly. This made the story feel longer at times than it should have been without much having happened while interesting details are almost skipped over.
Overall, it was still a good story and a great introduction to a new murder mystery series with a twist. I would recommend it to anyone who likes their murder mystery a bit eerie.
